God Questions
What is Salvation?
Salvation is the knowledge that when you die, you will spend eternity with God. Acquiring salvation is often referred to as being "saved".
Do I Really Need it?
Yes. God doesn't grade on the curve and unfortunately, we all commit sins on a daily basis, in thought or action. The ONLY way that God can see past that sin is because of a sacrifice that was made on our behalf. Because of that sacrifice, we can be free of the bonds of sin that would otherwise send us to hell.
But I'm a good person...
That's good, but being a good person won't do it. God has seen every thought (lust, envy, revenge, etc) and knows every action (lies, cheating, hurting, etc) that you've been a part of. It's not a question of how good you are, it's a simple matter of 'good is not good enough'. Apart from Jesus' life and death in our place, we can't make it to Heaven.
Did Jesus die for Me?
Yes. Jesus (God in human form) came to earth and lived a sinless life. Then, at the end of His life, He was put to death in the most horrible, torturous way known to mankind. But in a twist of grace and mercy, God used that travesty to allow us a way into Heaven. Christ died for everyone.
How do I get "saved"?
There are a lot of different philosophies out there on how to be "saved". However, it's not nearly as hard as some may make it out to be. By simply believing in Jesus and accepting Him as your Lord, you are automatically granted access to God's Kingdom (in other words, you're saved).
What is the "sinner's Prayer"?
There is no special set of words or actions that you've got to do or say in order to be saved (including baptism). The "Sinner's Prayer" is simply a model of what happens in your heart as a part of becoming saved. One version goes something like this:
Dear God, I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of my sins. I believe that Jesus is your Son, and that he died that I might be forgiven and have eternal life in Heaven. I ask you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Amen
The decision to accept as your Savior and follow Him as your Lord is the most important decision you'll make.
