Stronger in 2012

Our church-wide theme for 2012 is... STRONGER. We’d all like to be stronger, wouldn’t we? There are lots of ways we would like to be stronger, aren’t there? We want to have stronger faith, we’d like stronger hearts. We all desire stronger health. We all want stronger families. And, as a church, we would certainly like to have a stronger reach. In fact, over the past couple of years you have heard us often use the phrase, “externally focused and internally strong,” as an essential goal for SHBC. Will you make a prayerful commitment to grow STRONGER in every way together in Christ in 2012?

Join us for Worship Service every Sunday in January for the Stronger … Faith Series and also hear an amazing FAITH story from an SHBC family member each Sunday. See you at 10:30 a.m. Come at 9:15 for LifeGroup hour too!

NEW January 11th

10 Things our Kids Need from Us! ANew & Improved Parenting Class

Who can’t relate to the whole idea of wanting your kids to grow up in a G-Rated world, because even you & I are influenced by the world around us. That’s what we’re going to be talking about in this parenting series.

Some of you long-time veterans of SHBC may remember me teaching this series 5 years ago and then in a small group 2 years ago. This is the 3.0 or 4.0 version. I’ve made a ton of mistakes since then and learned an awful lot. My kids are now 21 & 19. You have no idea how naive I was back then.

“I’m thrilled to teach this. These lessons are really for me. I love this church and I’m excited to share with you a little of what God has been doing in our family over the last 21 years. Basically what I’m going to do is open up my parenting journal to you…So join me Wednesday nights at 6:30 beginning January 11thfor the introduction night and we will start the first class on January 25th. I’m looking forward to seeing you there.” (room 204) Steve Watkins, Executive Pastor

NEW Beth Moore Women’s Study Begins Jan. 18.

James, Jesus' own brother, started out as a skeptic. See how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple with Beth Moore's study James: Mercy Triumphs. Once you get to know both the man and the Book of James, you'll never be the same again.
Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. In other ways, James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any New Testament book. James is a book with many topics -- social justice, joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer -- all of which are covered in this study. (room 202)
