Steps to a Personal Relationship with God

  • Step 1 Understand that God loves you and created you for a personal relationship with Himself. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world (you)...” (John 3:16)
  • Step 2 Acknowledge there’s a problem. That is, the sin in our lives keeps us separated from God who is absolutely holy and just. The Bible also says, "For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23), and "...those who are not holy will not see the Lord." (Hebrews 12:14)
  • Step 3 Realize that God loves you and solved this separation problem by providing Jesus God Loves YouChrist who died on the Cross and rose from the grave, paying the penalty for our sin and making the way to a personal relationship with God. Again, the Bible says, "For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone." (1 Timothy 2:5,6a)
  • Step 4 Receive Christ as your forgiver and commit to follow Him as the leader of your life. The Bible says, "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! ...not a physical birth... this re-birth comes from God." (John 1:12) You can receive Christ right now and begin a relationship with God by personally telling Him these things and inviting Jesus Christ to come into your heart and life.

We want to pray for you. Let us know of your decision byEmaile-mailing Pastor Hess.

Grounded, Growing, Giving

Core Classes

Our goal is that every person who comes through the doors of our church would eventually become GROUNDED, GROWING, and GIVING in every facet of their lives. In order to help people understand each of these ideas and then commit to pursuing them, we offer three classes that are at the CORE of what we find important.

G1: Grounded in Christ & Church Membership

The first in our series of Core Classes is all about becoming connected at Southern Hills. During this one-day class, you will get to know more about a relationship with Christ, the strategy and vision of SHBC, how to become plugged into Southern Hills, and how to become a member. This class includes a Free Lunch and typically meets once every couple of months following our Sunday Worship service.

G2: Growing Toward Spiritual Maturity

The second in our series of Core Classes provides participants with practical, biblical models for developing into fully devoted followers of Christ. During this one-day class, you will learn what it takes to be continually growing in your relationship with God and how to be intentional about that process. You will learn the importance of prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and service. More importantly, you will learn how to begin practicing these disciplines right away!

G3: Giving in Ministry

The third in our series of Core Classes helps people think about how God has shaped them to serve in their church and community. During this one-day class, you will discover your SHAPE for ministry and how you can be used by God to serve at Southern Hills and beyond. Following completion of this class you will be able to sit down with a SHAPE Guide for a personal interview (to help you find your best fit for ministry) and even possibly start a new ministry.
